"The young German Kassandra Siebel has chosen to showcase her art with a piece known as one of the staple competition pieces – ''Sonata'' by Leo Brouwer. Friends of the guitar - not to mention experienced critics - are well acquainted with the piece, and may be growing weary of it after having heard it for the seeming hundred thousandth time. This needn't be the case, if the ''Sonata'' is performed competently. And perform it competently is precisely what Kassandra Siebel does – from the very first pianissimo-arpeggio to last note of the Finale. One is hard-pressed to find a better performance of this work by Brouwer. Different, possibly, but not better.
